A warm welcome, a unique experience and the best tips about the area; these are all reasons why so many travellers choose this type of accommodation. A B&B offers a unique and personal experience, usually giving some insight into the personality and passions of the owner. These qualities make them fascinating and different every time. From apartment to chalet, wellness B&B to theme room, bed and breakfasts cannot be placed in one box. Nevertheless, a general definition would read as follows: 'A B&B is a small-scale accommodation, focused on offering the possibility of a touristic and often short-term stay breakfast included. A B&B is usually located in a house or annex and is usually run by the owners of the property’.
History
The monumental villa "Bella Vista" is located on the Broekhem street. This street is comprised predominantly of villas from the period 1850-1940. Bella Vista is characterised by its special, eclectic architectural style. Typical to Valkenburg, the building materials used are red brick and marlstone. Built in 1905, Bella Vista served as a country retreat for the Mödder family from the Liège area. This is reflected in the detailed letterbox on the front door which states "lettres". At the time of inception, the villa provided a stunning panoramic view from the villa overlooking the valley. Thus, the name “Bella Vista”, or “Beautiful View”, was chosen. The villa was used as a guest house in the 1950s and later use included as a hotel, retirement home and private home.
